However, the first time I did a modprobe on Ubuntu to enable the loaded drivers, the whole OS stopped responding after some seconds the mouse pointer didn’t even move! How satisfied are you with this response?

Then I looked into using ndiswrapper with windoqs drivers that came with the wireless stick CD, which I don’t know if they work well with Windows, since on Windows it works out of the box I plug the adapter in, and Windows automatically recognizes it like what happened with previous versions of Ubuntu.

Please post anything you think that could help. You might try downloading and installing the latest driver finding it on 3COMs support site was a disaster for me – but Ubuntu Forums Code winddows Conduct.

You can try to make it work through ’round-about’ means, you can not use that OS, you can replace the device with something non-legacy, you can try a previous OSes drivers.
So if you go to the hardware manufacturer’s web site or contact them in some other way and they do not provide drivers or support for a given device in a given OS – then you have a few choices. I tried loading rWindows drivers through ndiswrapper, and although it does detect when the hardware is present or not, for the network manager it’s like there is no hardware. The second, third, etc. I also searched for the source code for the Linux drivers to see if I could compile wincows myself, but I can find nothing.
